Christmas Tree Cake Pops
I have holiday baking on the brain. Last year I made some adorable Christmas tree cake pops for my niece’s 2nd birthday. Her birthday is just three days away from Christmas so I thought it would be a fun treat to give. It was such a huge hit. Although they are a bit time consuming, they are relatively easy to make. You’ll need a lot of patience and plenty of time.

/I used vanilla cake mix, white frosting and white chocolate for a White Christmas Trees. Mini M & Ms were used as ornaments. If I do this again I’m thinking of using chocolate covered sunflower seeds for a more vintage lights look. Here is what you’ll need to bake your own batch of Christmas Trees:
/
/
/
/Cake Mix (your choice. I suggest using white cake mix for white trees)
/
/Mini M&Ms or other candy toppings (for ornaments)
/
/Mini Candy Star Sprinkles (tree topper: optional)
/
/Icing
/
/Wax Paper
/
/Cookie Sheet
/
/Lollipop Sticks
/
/Bags (sandwich bags for piping)
/
/Sanding Sugar ( for garland)
/
/Styrofoam base or something to hold pops in place (available at craft stores)
/
/
/
/DIRECTIONS:
/
/
/
/Bake the cake mix according to package directions. Let cool then crumble into a large baking pan. Mix in frosting making sure not to add to much. You don’t want the mix becoming too wet (it won’t hold the shape well and fall off the stick). Roll the mix into tree shapes and lay on wax paper. Freeze for about 15 minutes then transfer to fridge to keep cool but not too cold or they’ll crack when adding chocolate melt. In a microwave safe bowl, melt chocolates according to package directions.
/
/
/
/Remove a couple of trees from the refrigerator at a time and dip the tip of a lollipop stick into the melted coating, and insert into a “tree” no more than halfway through. Dip and remove the cake “tree” in one motion without stirring. Making sure the entire tree pop is covered. If your coating is too thick, you can add a little vegetable oil to help thin it and make it easier to work with.
/
/
/
/Remove and gently tap off any excess coating to fall off the pop and back into the bowl. Before the coating sets, gently tap the back of a fork to give the rough tree texture or you can leave it as it. Gently press an M&M in position for lights and add an optional star as a tree topper or leave as is. For garland place melted candy melt into a sandwich bag snipping the corner of the bag and pipe around the tree. Sprinkle sanding sugars on the coating before it sets. Place in craft foam to dry. Please remember that this is a bit time consuming so be patient. In the end you should have a cute little tree 🙂 Nice eh?
